We all have different types of skin, all of which require different routines and different products. I'll show you some game plans for your skin. But first you need to identify what kind of skin you have. • Dry skin will typically feel tight throughout the day and have noticeable flaking.
• Normal skin is not too shiny nor dry.
• Combo skin is often dry on the cheeks but then slightly oily on the T zone. (T zone is the forehead and down the center of the face.)
• Oily skin will get quite shiny (oily) a few hours after cleaning.
• Blemish prone skin will break out a lot due to oil, stress, dirty pillows, hormones, diet and exercise, or a number of other things.
(With blemish prone skin you can have dry, oily, or combo skin, but usually people with blemish prone skin have oily skin.) Here are some ingredients I recommend in face masks and why I use them. Honestly, if you do your research, you can use just about anything from your fridge that's organic and free of any harmful chemicals or additives.
• Coconut oil - good for moisturizing • Jojoba oil - replicate our own natural oils • Vitamin E oil - good for scars and moisturizing • Honey - smooths skin, moisturizing, and good for all different types of scaring • Lemon juice - brightens face of unwanted pigments • Potato juice - give youthful glow and good for all different types of scars • Apple cider vinegar - amazing for clogged pores
• Witch hazel - controls oils • Water - filler/dilutes • Eggs - tightens face and pores • avocado - source of essential nutrients • Coconut yogurt - brightening and moisturizing • Baking soda - deducts oil and cleanses • Cinnamon - absorbs oil and repairs scars • Nutmeg - absorbs oil and repairs scars • Charcoal powder - detoxes pores and lightens
•Indian healing clay or mud mask powder - detoxes and drys • Lavender (Young Living) essential oil - calming and Swiss army knife of oils • Tea Tree (Young Living) essential oil (also called melaleuca) - supports skin health • Myrrh (Young Living) essential oil - moisturizing properties, good for aged skin (Government regulating agency’s enforce me to be compliant when talking about essential oils, therefore you get bare minimum on some of these products. But, it is what it is. At least I can say something instead of nothing.)
Now that you know part of the benefits for these ingredients I can give you my favorite combination of these ingredients. But feel free to make your own custom recipe! Just remember, masks consistency are paste, so mix equal parts liquids and solids. Face mask for dry skin: jojoba oil coconut (or other vegan) yogurt baking soda lavender (Young Living) essential oil Face mask for normal/combo skin: honey egg baking soda lavender (Young Living) essential oil Face mask for oily skin: lemon juice witch hazel baking soda Face mask for acne prone skin: apple cider vinegar lemon juice honey baking soda cinnamon nutmeg tea tree oil
Note: don't be surprised if you feel a lot of tingling but don't worry, no damage is being done to your skin.
Face mask 2 for acne prone skin:
Clay or mud mask powder
baking soda cinnamon nutmeg
apple cider vinegar
water
Mix these and apply all over face. You can leave these masks on as long as you want, since there’s no chemicals it won’t hurt to leave on for several hours. (I usually put on after dinner and take off before I go to bed, then cleanse my face.) Note:
1. if your skin feels funky while wearing these, ITS OKAY. and if its red afterwards, ITS OKAY. skin is sensitive but if you use the right ingredients for your skin, no harm is being done.
2. You’ll see that there are a lot more ingredients in the acne prone mask, that’s because I have moderate to severe acne and my scars don’t fade without lots of help. But I do know what does fade them.
You can change any of these ingredients to fit you personally. Now you know! I wish you all luck on your journey to flawless skin, Lord knows I need some. ;)
